Powerful acid-blocking medicines can also cut off the secretion of stomach acid. In some cases, doctor may suggest surgery. The conventional surgery involves an abdominal incision in which the protruding fatty tissue is either removed or pressed back into the abdomen. The abdominal wall is then repaired by sewing the adjacent muscle over it. Sometimes a special mesh type material is added to strengthen the abdominal cavity. Laparoscopic surgery is also used for abdominal incision.

You can successfully control the symptoms of abdominal hernia by making some lifestyle changes. Hernia patients should avoid large occasional meals and try to eat frequent meals. Try to avoid spicy foods, alcohols, coffee and smoking. It is better to wear comfortable clothes. If you are obese, try to lose your weight. You can also avoid activities that increase abdominal pressure such as lifting or straining.
